These deep spiritual roots have given Bali a lasting reputation as a place of self-discovery. If you are a tourist seeking more than just stunning scenery on your Bali trip, you've come to the right place. We're here to introduce you to the iconic symbol of Bali, Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural Park. GWK Cultural Park does not merely serve as a tourist attraction, but also a unique sanctuary that provides a profound spiritual experience. To begin your spiritual journey, let's start with the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue!

Witness the Majestic Presence of Garuda Wisnu Kencana

Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) Cultural park is home to the fourth highest monumental statue in the world as well as the highest statue in Indonesia, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue. The creation of this majestic statue was inspired by the event of Garuda's search for Amrita, the elixir of life. In the story, Garuda agreed to be Visnu's ride in return for the right to use the elixir of life. This elixir was intended to be used to free Garuda's enslaved mother, Vinatā. This statue depicting Vishnu and Garuda is of great significance as it symbolizes strength, protection, and divine grace.

With its impressive height of 121 m, the grand scale and significance of the GWK statue evokes a sense of awe and transcendence in whoever spectates it. Witnessing this monumental artwork from up close can create a powerful and moving spiritual experience which connects visitors to ancient Balinese beliefs.

Receive Blessings in the Sacred Spring of Parahyangan Somaka Giri

Another spot within GWK where you can have a profound spiritual experience is Parahyangan Somaka Giri. Located in Plaza Wisnu, Parahyangan Somaka Giri is a temple deeply connected to the vital element of water. The sacred spring located there is considered as a continuous and miraculous gift by the locals. Locals believe that this gift possesses magical powers that can heal various illnesses and invoke rain during prolonged dry seasons in Ungasan's limestone hills.

At Parahyangan Somaka Giri, you can perform the Balinese Hinduism ritual melukat (Self-Purification Ritual Using Holy Water). With the holy water obtained from the sacred spring, you have the opportunity to cleanse negative energy within you.

Originally, melukat was only performed by Hindus in Bali. However, in the modern era, anyone from various backgrounds does this ritual as well. They perform it as a form of spiritual rejuvenation or simply seeking inner peace. Moreover, this ritual has become a part of the Balinese tourism, favored by local and foreign tourists.

You can also request this holy water, but only after you pray at the temple. The act of receiving the holy water can be an opportunity for spiritual purification or blessing, aligning with Balinese ritual practices. The spring itself is a tangible manifestation of the divine within the GWK landscape, offering a more personal and direct spiritual encounter.

The Symbolic Offering at Plaza Kura-Kura: Planting Seeds of Hope

Last but not least, we have Plaza Kura-Kura. Plaza Kura-Kura is where you can perform the unique Balinese ritual of throwing coins into a pond. This act is actually a symbolic gesture of conveying hopes and prayers to the Creator.

The cultural practice of visitors is adorning with a garment called kamen (a traditional Balinese waist sash) before participating in the coin-throwing ritual, emphasizing respect and cultural immersion. The act of throwing coins into the pond can be your way of manifesting desired outcomes and seeking blessings. Plaza Kura-Kura is a space within GWK that is dedicated to personal reflection and hopeful expressions of intentions. This act might seem simple, but it actually offers a direct and participatory way for visitors to engage with Balinese spiritual traditions and express their personal faith.
