MEDIA RELEASE
Badung, February 12, 2024. GWK Cultural Park presents a program titled GWK Me.Nari, a Balinese dance cultural education program for elementary school students around GWK Cultural Park in the form of group dance lessons. This activity is free of charge, and the dance instructors are GWK's regular dancers, graduates of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Denpasar. The program, which was positively received by students, schools, and parents, was launched at the end of last year and has registered more than 300 students for regular lessons, which run from Monday to Friday.
In collaboration with the GWK Attraction & Event Department, after three weeks of training, an evaluation was conducted and trophies were awarded to the participants with the best scores on Sunday, February 11, 2024. A total of 118 female and 41 male students were declared ready to participate in the Wirayuda and Pendet Dance evaluations. The meaning of the Wirayuda Dance is readiness and courage to fight in defending the homeland from enemy threats. Meanwhile, the Pendet Dance is intended as a form of welcome for the descent of the Gods to Earth. Attended by more than 400 people, this evaluation activity received a warm welcome and support from all parents of students and all involved parties.
"Not only through GWK Me.Nari, we strive to consistently support the preservation of Balinese culture. In fact, after this GWK Me.Nari program, we will continue with the GWK Menabuh musical instrument program, one of which is the Balinese Gamelan. This program will further involve schools and will foster more cultural heritage values that we can care for, maintain, and preserve together," said Stefanus Yonathan Astayasa, Operations Director of GWK Cultural Park.
Besides being a form of cultural preservation, this dance learning process has become a tourist attraction, especially for international tourists. Several tourists from Europe, such as Germany and the Netherlands, have even come specifically to GWK to watch the dance performances. One of the regular activities held by GWK (Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park) is a regular dance performance every hour. The regular performances consist of 15 dance performances by GWK's own studio, including the Kecak Dance, a collaboration with Ogoh-ogoh.
