MEDIA RELEASE
Ungasan, September 29, 2023 – Inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo, on September 22, 2018, Alam Sutera presented the Garuda Wisnu Kencana to Indonesia. As we enter this five-year anniversary, many stories have been told behind the statue's construction, involving approximately 1,000 workers, Alam Sutera Group employees, and local youth in their work for the nation. Under the auspices of Alam Sutera Group, GWK Cultural Park has soared to become Indonesia's No. 1 Iconic Destination.
GWK Cultural Park has become widely recognized as a leading venue for world-class events. These include various major and renowned music festivals, the spectacular annual Bali Countdown event, and the visit of Miss World. Photos of the contestants with the Garuda statue and the iconic Lotus Pond stairs in the background quickly spread around the world. GWK Cultural Park then gained further recognition as one of the venues visited during the 2018 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings. To this day, GWK Cultural Park continues to be remembered as the venue for the G20 Heads of State dinner at the G20 Summit on November 15, 2022.
To celebrate the Panca Warsa (Day of the Five Greatest Heroes), on September 29, 2023, GWK Cultural Park held the Pacaruan Panca Rupa (Five Greater Powers) ceremony at the main Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue as a form of gratitude to God. The Pacaruan ceremony involved five sacrificial animals: a goose, a sikep duck, a blangkalung duck, a bang bungkem asu, and a goat.
The Panca Warsa series began with the Piodalan (Piontural Ceremony) at Parahyangan Somaka Giri, located at Plaza Wisnu. This location is adjacent to a spring located over 200 meters above sea level, called Somaka Giri. In this area, visitors can now experience storytelling and pray according to their respective beliefs. Visitors can also purchase Tirta Panglukatan (Holy Cleansing Water) and Tri Datu bracelets blessed by Jro Mangku.
Also present at this series of events were the directors of PT. Alam Sutera, Tbk., who were seen wearing traditional Balinese attire in white and yellow tones. Complete with Balinese hairdos and udeng (traditional head scarves). This look matched the tedung (traditional bamboo lanterns) and pennants adorning the Plaza Kura-Kura and Plaza Wisnu areas. Plaza Kura-Kura houses a relief depicting an avatar, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu descending to earth to save humanity from disaster. Legend has it that if you throw a coin and sincerely pray in the pool of Dewi Laksmi, your wish will be granted. Reportedly, in 2022, a visitor from Semarang fervently prayed for a soul mate. They were engaged and will be married in early 2024.
"Unlike most celebrations, we commemorated GWK's five-year anniversary by holding a communal prayer service, expressing our gratitude to God for His blessings," explained GWK Cultural Park Operations Director, Stefanus Yonathan Astayasa.
"The presence of the Board of Directors from Alam Sutera Group headquarters at this prayer service is clear evidence that we are all truly grateful for the existence of GWK Cultural Park, which is the embodiment of our initiatives and aspirations. There are many ideas, hopes, and thoughts contained within it. May the universe help protect it," Stefanus concluded.
In addition to holding the prayer service, the following day, September 30th, GWK Cultural Park held a Tree Planting for the Future activity. "In line with Alam Sutera Group's vision of improving the quality of human life, we planted 100 frangipani trees in the Plaza Revayah area of GWK. We not only receive, but also want to give to nature to harmonize our relationship with the surrounding environment," Stefanus concluded.
