Exploring the Meaning of Tirta Amertha, the Water of Immortality in the Story of Garuda Wisnu Kencana
The splendor of GWK Cultural Park is not only about the beauty of the majestic statues and spectacular panoramas. But also a deep journey into the meaning and story behind every detail in GWK Bali . One that holds a deep story and meaning is Tirta Amertha, holy water that will grant immortality to anyone who drinks it. This holy water is a central aspect of the story of Garuda Wisnu, namely when Garuda seeks Tirta Amertha to save his mother , Dewi Kadru, from the shackles of the Naga race. This time, GWK Bali invites you to explore the legendary story behind "Tirta Amertha" related to the story of Garuda Wisnu.
In the stories of the Purana Mahabharata , a Hindu mythological tale about the water of immortality is mentioned. Anyone who drinks even a drop of Tirta Amrita will attain eternal life. However, obtaining it is not as easy as turning over a hand. The quest for this holy water begins during the Satya Yuga period , long before the story of Garuda begins.
The story goes that the gods and asuras , or giants, convened a meeting atop Mount Meru. They gathered to discuss how to obtain Tirta Amertha. It wasn't an easy decision, but both parties were determined to achieve their common goal. Ultimately, they agreed to work together to locate the holy water.
The gods and asuras began the process of churning the Ksirarnawa ocean , an endeavor fraught with challenges and obstacles. The peak of Mount Mahameru was placed on Kurma's back, with Ananta Sesha as the rope. The gods held the head, while the asuras held the tail. Taking turns, they pulled until Mount Mahameru spun violently, churning the Ksirarnawa ocean. From the ocean floor, sacred objects and magical creatures emerged, including the horse Ucchaisrawa and apsaras. Amidst the chaos, the figure of Dhanwantari emerged carrying a jar filled with the Pure Water.

At GWK Bali, Tirta Amertha is embodied in the form of a beautiful fountain, located at the entrance to the GWK Bali area. For visitors, this fountain is not just a gateway, but also the beginning of a fascinating adventure at GWK Bali. Through this representation, each visitor is invited to experience how the values of the Garuda Wisnu story remain relevant and inspiring to this day.
