GWK Statue Construction: Not Green, This Is the Original Color of the GWK Statue's Skin!
The monumental splendor of the GWK statue immediately captivates everyone upon arrival in Bali. Every inch of the intricately crafted statue holds a fascinating story. One intriguing question that often arises is, "Is the green color on this statue the result of coloring or is it covered by moss? Why was green chosen for the GWK statue?" To answer these questions, let's take a moment to look back at the construction process of the GWK statue .
The GWK statue is made from thousands of copper plates cut into triangular shapes. Each piece is carefully forged to create a texture resembling human skin . Uniquely, the construction process of the GWK statue was not machine-made, but entirely manual, done by human hands .
Although the original material is copper , why does the GWK statue emit a unique and captivating green color? The secret lies in its patina . Patina is a layer of color formed by the oxidation of metal materials in response to the surrounding air and weather conditions. This oxidation process is used to give the GWK statue its color.
The natural oxidation process is continuous and takes a very long time. It is estimated that it takes approximately 10-15 years to develop the natural green patina of the GWK statue. To overcome this, an acid solution is used to accelerate the oxidation process. The spraying process is equally challenging. Certified workers trained in working at heights are deployed to spray the acid solution on the GWK statue.

The results are truly remarkable. A beautiful green patina is magically created. Over time, the turquoise green gradually turns gray in some areas, emphasizing the curves and detailed contours of the GWK statue, making it appear even more majestic. Interestingly, visitors often mistake the dark green for naturally growing moss. Some even believe the GWK statue is made from large, cut stones.
